Triggers – sparking positive change and making it last by Marshall Goldsmith Book Review – English

A book, written by one of the good life coaches and educator Marshall Goldsmith. He works as a guide/coach for leadership development programs with the management team, higher management people, future leaders, development of current leaders, etc. Some examples of his client’s success, failure, and program incompletion are mentioned in the book with reasons. Their relevant stories, techniques,  motivation, efforts, desired changes, development, goal, goal setting, etc. are also mentioned.

Behaviour is affected by two things: Environment and Trigger. These two terms are used repetitively in the book to explain human behavior in various situations. Environment plays an important role to control human behavior/reaction in specific situations. In different environments, the person will have different reactions to the same situation. The trigger is the thing that inspires a person to do, act or react to a specific situation, it may be good or bad. The trigger is like motivation, inspiration, or consequence which makes a person act, react or do something.

A book is written with a major focus on human behavior and the up-gradation of human behavior for stability and growing professionally as well as personal life. The techniques mentioned in the book will help the person to grow professionally, better behavior in relations, and make balance in personal life. Some relevant examples of it are also mentioned in the book.

Book’s major focus is on the development of future leaders or current leaders (but anybody can use techniques mentioned in the book for professional as well as personal growth). Many techniques are mentioned in the book for the leaders to keep calm, patient, and behave as per the environment by keeping the triggers in control along with various techniques of self developments.

Most importantly, the techniques are simple and easy to implement without much effort. The examples of the leaders given are inspiring, exciting, and easy to understand. The book includes the points like types of questions to be asked to self and others; structured /planned life and its benefits; ways to get the best out of self, goal setting, listening, communication, etc.

Maybe implementing all the techniques in our life are difficult but a person can try at least one (behavioral change or technique) to implement and it will definitely help (self-experience).

Must read this book (includes 4-5 professional pieces of training combined in it) to improve personal or professional relationships, to grow professionally, for self-development. If you open the page with a positive mindset, it will definitely help for self-development, grow professionally, improve communication, listening, etc.

One thing to keep in mind, this book is for the person’s own development, behavioral change, growth, relation-building, etc. Don’t read it if you think your boss, colleague, partner, relative, subordinate, or anybody else needs the change and you don’t.
