Breathe (season 1) a hindi web series, serious-emotional-crime drama streaming since Jan 2018 on Amazon Prime. 8 episodes released with an average length of 38 minutes each.
The story revolves around two major characters, first Senior Inspector Kabir Sawant (Amit Sadh) drunkard, emotional, clever, shrewd, and a little violent main hero of the story, who lost his daughter in some accident and lives a sad life in that grief. Now struggling to save a broken relationship with his wife. The second and most important character of the story is villain Denzil “Danny” Mascarenhas, a negative character played by R Madhavan. Danny’s 6-year-old son will die in 6 months due to weak lungs.
Other supporting characters are Ria Ganguly (Sapna Pabbi) & Shreya Sawant (Ritvi Jain) Kabeer’s wife and Daughter, Juliet Mascarenhas (Neena Kulkarni) Danny’s mother, Joshua “Josh” Mascarenhas (Atharva Vishwakarma) Danny’s dying son, Prakash Kamble (Hrishikesh Joshi) Kabeer’s assistant, Dr. Aruna Sharma (Shriswara) Josh’s doctor and Danny’s girlfriend, Malwankar (Shrikant Yadav) corrupt police inspector and Kabeer’s rival, Margaret Mascarenhas (Urmila Kanitkar) Danny’s wife, Shaina (Madhura Naik) & Ronnie (Tarun Gahlot) Danny’s neighbor, Shankar Patil (Kali Prasad Mukherjee) Kabeer’s boss, Nilesh Mohite (Ajit Bhure) Kabeer’s ex-boss, Sudhir Verma (Gyan Prakash), Anita Sahani (Jayashree Venketaramanan), Rajiv Nair (Hiytesh Sejpaal) & Rahul Pradhan (Chetan Chitnis) registered organ donors and four victims of Danny. Some other small characters in supporting roles are also there.
Everybody did great work, but R Madhavan is the star of the series. As usual, he did fantastic work. This time as an emotional father who becomes a cold-blooded murderer to save his son.
The series begins with an ambulance blowing a siren and Anita recording a video of her suicide. After her death, someone leaves the flat with the door open. Then the story goes back for 4 months.
The story is about a father-son relationship. Josh need a lung from an organ donor to stay alive and he is on number 4 in the recipients’ list. Simple football coach Danny becomes a mastermind criminal and cold-blooded murderer to save his 6-year-old dying son Josh.Danny plans the murders of organ donors so that Josh will get a lung and will live. Danny plans to kill 5 donors and thinks to picture it as a natural death or accident. But the first donor (Sudhir Verma) doesn’t die and goes into a coma. When he kills the second donor (Rahul Pradhan) and creates the scene of accidental death, Rahul’s fiancée’s mind has doubts about his death, so she complains to Kabeer.
Kabeer, a drunkard Police inspector, also gets some suspicious feelings about the deaths so he follows his instinct and senses to stop Danny from future killings. While investigating murders, Kabeer comes to know one of the donors is Kabeer’s wife Ria, whose murder Danny is planning. Kabeer takes it personally to save his wife and then begins Kabeer and Danny’s Tom-N-Jerry race.
It is a very emotional and heart touching story of Danny and Josh’s relationship. Danny even kills his girlfriend, Dr. Aruna Sharma, when she tries to stop him. While watching the series, our mind will be sure, whatever Danny is doing to save Josh is wrong and unethical, but the emotional heart doesn’t allow you to accept this. The heart will convince the mind whatever wrong or unethical things Danny is doing, is doing just to save his 6-year-old son, otherwise he is a good man, a simple football coach, and a good father. This emotional relationship is the backbone of the series. In many scenes, your eyes may get wet.
How Danny get a classified and confidential list of Donors? How Danny plans the murder of Donors? How Danny ensures that the killed donor is brain-dead only, and other organs are safe for 6-7 hours? How Danny ensure that the brain-dead body reaches the hospital in 1 or 2 hours? How Danny create scenes of natural death or accidents for a killed donor? Does Josh get the lung and life? Is Kabeer able to save Ria? Is Danny able to save Josh? Is Kabeer able to stop Danny? Does Kabeer get evidence against Danny? Why does Kabeer feel natural-looking deaths are murders? Emotional father with the negative role of a murderer played by R Madhavan, one reason is enough to watch this series. In many scenes, you will feel pity for R Madhavan, a father.
Some scenes and characters don’t have any significant importance in the story, they could have been omitted. The end of the series is a bit dramatic and unacceptable but after all, it’s a fictional emotional crime drama, so the end is emotional.
It is a must-watch show for many reasons, like the story, acting, juggling of Danny and Kabeer, emotional drama, the father-son relationship, etc. It is a bumper lottery of entertainment with awesome acting in the emotional crime drama.
