A Simple Murder is a web series released on Sony Live in Apr 2020 and 7 episodes of 31-36 minutes. It’s a story about greed, police, crime, murder, drama. Serious track of the story with a base of “Comedy of Errors.” The story revolves around characters Manish, Richa, and Santosh.
The lead characters are Manish (Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub), an entrepreneur having financial problems, and his marriage is on the edge of breaking. Richa (Priya Anand) is Manish’s greedy wife and has an affair with Rahul. Santosh (Amit Sial) is a contract killer working for Pandit and planning to leave everything behind and live retired life with his girlfriend. Priya Dawas (Tejasvi Singh Ahlawat), Pran’s daughter, runs with a Muslim boyfriend and uploads a video against her father of threatening them and honor killing.
Other supporting characters are, Himmat (Sushant Singh) is a drunkard contract killer. Rahul (Ayaz Khan) is Richa’s boss who has an affair with Madhu. Pratik Mishra (Vikram Kochhar), corrupt and canny assistant of Amit, joins hands with Pran. Pandit (Yashpal Sharma), a spiritual guru who runs a contract-killing business and has a close link with Pran. Madhu (Vedika Dutt), Rahul’s girlfriend cheating on Santosh and planning to steal his money and run away. Shankar (Durgesh Kumar), the Bar waiter, babble, knows Manish and Richa, Rahul pays him for his fake alibi. Pran Dawas (Vinay Varma) is a fundamentalist politician, kills his political rival and wishes to kill his daughter and her boyfriend. Amit Mehta (Gopal Datt) is the investigating officer of Madhu’s murder. Usmaan (Ankur Pandey), Priya’s boyfriend.
The story starts with Richa and Manish waking up in a water-filled house, and she leaves for the office in anger after a fight. Somewhere else, Santosh kills the political leader for Pran Dawas. After this, he visits Madhu and gives her all the money. She plans to escape the country with her boyfriend Rahul when he goes out.
Pandit calls Manish for a meeting and gives him Priya’s photo with her address, a gun, and an advance of Rs 5 lakh to kill her. The bar coincidently Manish meets Himmat.
Richa finds Priya’s photo at home and fights with Manish, and she leaves in anger, and he loses the picture and address in the fire, leaving him with half burn photo.
Priya tells Usmaan Pandit will help them and concede her father for their marriage, who had arranged a house for them a day before. Whereas Pandit confirms Pran will kill them. Himmat visits Pandit for the contract’s photo, money, gun and finds Manish took it.
Manish mistakenly kills Madhu, whose bungalow is just opposite Priya’s bungalow. Usman hears gunfire and escapes with Priya. Manish leaves from there with money. He tells everything to Richa, so she tells him to throw the gun. Himmat finds his address and catches him. He promises him the money and a gun and informs him he killed the girl. They find Richa ran away with the money. Meanwhile, Pandit tells Himmat, Manish has killed the wrong girl. Then he offers him 2.5 Crores to help him find Richa.
Rahul finds Madhu’s dead body and escapes from there. Later he files a police complaint about the stolen car. From Richa’s office, Manish knows Rahul is also searching for her.
With Madhu’s phone, Amit concludes Rahul killed her and tells same to Santosh. Rahul tells him he and Richa were in the bar. And the car is stolen by thieves. Later he calls Richa, and she invites him to the hotel, where she is enjoying herself. There he locks her in the bathroom and leaves with all her money. He also escapes from Santosh, who is waiting in the hotel reception.
Richa calls Manish for help, who was drinking with Himmat. She tells him Rahul has stolen all the money. Himmat doesn’t trust her. Manish hits him to escape with her and goes to the lodge where Priya and Usmaan are already staying.
Priya uploads a video doubting her father, which goes viral. Pran tells Pandit to kill her. Pandit gets Usmaan and Manish in ATM. They escape from there and reach the lodge. Usmaan tells them, Pandit was there to kill them with Pran’s order. Pandit gets killed by Priya. They tell Manish the man hired by Pran has killed some other girl.
In the hotel room, Santosh meets injured Himmat, who tells him the story of the money and murder. Santosh stabs, leaves him there. Then he calls Rahul from the police station and asks to visit for an inquiry.
The police know Rahul’s truth from the bar, and they call Richa for an inquiry. She goes there with a gun.
Pratik understands Santosh had called Rahul to the police station and asks him to leave, saying his alibi is true. Richa and Pratik follow him separately. Rahul tells Richa the money is in the car dickey before she kills him and injures and locks Pratik. The car seller toes Rahul’s car from parking and takes it to the Mayanagari junkyard.
Santosh injures in a car accident while going to the police station. He meets Manish, who came with Himmat to the hospital. At gunpoint, he asks him about Madhu’s murder and money. Himmat attacks him and saves Manish.
In Pandit’s office, Manish and Himmat get Santosh’s details and ask for money from him. He calls them to the Mayanagri junkyard and kills Himmat, and Manish escapes after hiding the hard drive.
Pandit’s murder investigation Amit finds the place where Priya shot her video. And, in Pandit’s home, he finds a call recording in which Pran orders Priya’s murder. He shares these things with Pratik and informs Santosh of Rahul’s death.
Priya uploads one more video and requests Manish for some money to leave for Mumbai.
Pran agrees to give 5 Crore to Santosh if he brings Priya back. Richa fails to locate Rahul’s car, so she also calls Pran, asks for money to help him find Priya. After her call, Priya meets her in a mall. She knocks Richa in the bathroom and escapes. Later Santosh finds Richa unconscious there.
Priya and Usmaan return to Manish, who was telling Amit, “he has proof against Santosh, Pandit, Pran with dead bodies in the Junkyard.”
Pratik follows Amit when he is helping Priya to escape. He tells Pratik he will expose Pran with the help of Manish. Pratik shares bus details with Pran. And, he shares details with Santosh and tells him to hand over Priya to Pratik. Richa wakes up in Rahul’s car, bought by Santosh.
At the junkyard, they find Himmat and other bodies. Manish handover the hard drive to Amit. Pratik kills Amit to get a hard drive, but Manish escapes when he tries to kill him.
Santosh brings Priya, Usmaan, and Richa to Junkyard. There he knocks Pratik unconscious, and then Manish knocks him unconscious. Richa kills Pratik when he stops her from leaving with the money. When she tries to kill others, Manish kills her.
The next day police find many dead bodies at the junkyard with proof linking it with Santosh. The series ends with Santosh waking in hospital and Manish having money.
Many twists and turns are there in this black comedy crime drama. Crime genre with the spice of Hindu Muslim love story, honor killing is cashed in it. Exaggeration of contract killing thing but is still good and entertaining to watch for twists and comedy with top-class acting. 7.5/10*
